The First Colonists to arrive in South Australia were brought to Kangaroo Island aboard HMS Buffalo in 1836. Sharing the journey was a veteran of the Royal Navy who had served aboard Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory. Frank Potts was an accomplished sailor and carpenter, he built many of the young colony's structures and trading vessels. Six generations later, the Potts family's precious plantings of Malbec have been a key component in many of the nation's most memorable and invaluable vintages for decades. A varietal that performs magnificently on the silty flood plains of Langhorne Creek, Bleasdale's pure Malbec bottlings are a profound statement about the excellence and eloquence which can be achieved after generations of husbanding one of the world's most instrumental yet abstruse wine.. It was a matrimony between an American biochemist and the founder of Margaret River Devils Lair, that set the scene for one of the nation's most illustrious estates. A member of the Top 1OO Wineries of World, Giant Steps were established 1997, with a view to assembling an elite range of limited release Yarra Valley vintages. Crafted from the fruit of superior sites, some yielding just a few hundred cases each year, these are exclusive editions from bespoke parcels of elite terroir, bearing the curiously cryptic monikers of precious blocks of vine, Gruyere Farm, Applejack and Wombat Creek. Fashioned for aficianados of the euro style, defined by their winsome fruit and graceful tannins, the Giant Steps single vineyard range are all distinct for their expression of place, each articulate of a unique soil and influence of.. After founding Mornington's eminent Moorooduc Estate and decades crafting the most memorable vintages for Mornington's leading brands, Richard McIntyre established a tiny, single hectare vineyard, on a prominent, high elevation site at Arthur's Seat, with a view to producing limited yields of the most exquisite small batch wines. The techniques of choice are wild yeast ferments, minimal intervention and good French oak, with a nod to traditional Burgundian practices, which allow the wines to speak of provenance, express their specificity of clone and articulate their sense of place. There's not much Bellingham made but every bottle passes through the hands of a team member who has been involved with the vintage since pruning and budburst. Mountadam High Eden Chardonnay CONFIRM VINTAGE

Chardonnay Eden Valley South Australia
From the best parcels of fruit grown to the High Eden Ridge Estate vineyard, these are the earliest plantings of Chardonnay in South Austraia and some of the oldest in the country. The east facing escarpment rises 550 metres above sea level and separates the dramatically cooler Eden Valley, providing a myriad of interesting mesoclimates and vineyards which have been refined over time, along with the winemaking. The vines are painstakingly pruned by hand and yields are methodically thinned to ensure grapes develop the requisite intensity of flavour.

Mountadam vineyards were re-established as part of a deeply personal project by one of Australia's most entrepreneurial winemaking dynasties. The cool climes of High Eden Ridge, the large clonal variation and the very different aspects of the Mountadam blocks necessitate careful attention to the ripening of fruit. Fruit is harvested throughout the chill of night and gently pressed, juice are fermented in an extravagantly high proportion of new French oak barriques and treated to the occasional lees stirring battonage, completion of malolactic, racked and returned, followed by a year's maturation and final racking before assemblage.
Light golden hue. Classic Chardonnay fruit aromas of peach, nectarine and nashi pear. A rich barrel ferment palate of grilled nuts with clove and nutmeg spice supported by a citrus grapefruit core, all contributing to the immense flavour and length. Match with fried whiting fillets, camembert or recipes which call for white truffle.

Mountadam
Established in 1972 as one of Australia's pioneer chardonnay producers, Mountadam was founded by the late David Wynn, a true visionary of the Australian Wine Industry

Mountadam is in the Eden Valley which neighbours the Barossa Valley. It takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach the Mountadam Winery from Adelaide or 20 minutes from the larger towns of the Barossa Valley such as Angaston or Tanunda. The property was identified after David's exhaustive search of potential sites throughout South Eastern Australia.

Mountadam

David's extensive experience in viticulture and wine production, honed during his days at the Wynn family's estate at Connawarra, had given him a keen eye for the perfect site, and he finally settled on the land that is now Mountadam.

The site selection was based on three critical factors, firstly the stability of climate. Grape growing, like growing any fresh produce, is subject to the weather. Either too little or too much rain at the wrong time can cause ripening and disease problems. Mountadam experiences little or no rain during the critical ripening period.

The cool climate was a critical factor. David Wynn knew that to produce elegant yet powerful wines, the vines should not be subject to the stress of hot conditions. At 550 metres above sea level, it is sufficiently cool to preserve the delicate flavours of the grape through-out its entire ripening process.

Mountadam

Well drained soils also played a major role in the selection of the winegrowing property. Shallow soils over base rock provide perfect drainage and soil dryness to minimise vigour and maximise fruit concentration. Preparations for planting Mountadam commenced in 1970 with many years spent developing and improving the property.

Mountadam wines are always made from the best portion of fruit available from the winery's source vineyards in the Eden and Barossa Valleys. The estate provides a myriad of interesting meso climates and geological formations. Importantly, the various sites which cling the the hillsides and high valleys have been chosen for their true continental climate with warm sunny days and cool evenings. The complex microclimates combined with the classic soils and geologies, provides the Mountadam winemakers with an array of palates from which to craft the superb wines. Mountadam wines are always crafted in honour of the winery's patriarch, David Wynn, the founder of Mountadam and one of the great visionaries of the Australian wine industry

"One of the leading small wineries, founded by David Wynn and run by winemaker son Adam Wynn, initially offering only the Mountadam range at relatively high prices. The subsequent development of the three ranges of wines has been very successful, judged both by the winemaking and wine-marketing viewpoint. Mountadam has built up an extensive export network over many years, This will doubtless be strengthened following the acquisition of Mountadam!" -Winepros.com.au
