There are but two winemakers who can lay claim to a staggering four Jimmy Watson Trophy victories. Wolf Blass was the man behind the label. John Glaetzer was the man behind Wolf Blass. While working for Wolf, Glaetzer was moonlighting on his own brand, applying the same extravagance of technique to the pick of Langhorne Creek fruit. Perfection in the form of black bramble fruit, muscular yet affable tannins, all framed by the luxury of ebony oak. Aspirants of the great Black Blass Label fables of 1974, 1975 and 1976, are privately advised to avail themselves of John's Blend, Cabernet or Shiraz. Crafted from the same parcels, in the same way, by the same hands, that collaborated to create, the most celebrated triumphs in the history of our nation's highest accolade, thrice winners of the exalted Jimmy Watson Memorial.. The elite Grange Growers Club is one of the nation's more exclusive fellowships, an illustrious canon of distinguished wine growing families which are the stuff of Australian viticultural history. One of McLaren Vale's most eminent dynasties, Oliver's of Taranga were an essential inclusion into many of the mighty Grange's most memorable vintages. Situated at the heart of Mount Benson, the Norfolk Rise Vineyard is planted on 180 hectares of undulating coastal hills. Parcels of Pinot Grigio are selectively harvested to a timetable determined by physiological ripeness, allowing full expression of varietal fruit character. Grapes are handled in a manner to preserve integrity and avoid any juice oxidation or browning. Small portions of chilled grapes are held on skins for optimal extractions of flavour. Juices are clarified and a long, cool fermentation is initiated by aromatic yeast strains. To maximise the retention of fresh fruit flavours and aromas, Norfolk Rise is bottled immediately after vinification and assemblage.
Pale straw with a blush hue. Aromas of musk, white nectarine and pears, orange blossom notes and a hint of spice. Fresh and fruity with ripe pear and lemon sherbet flavours balanced by a delicate and soft mineral finish. Fresh and mouth watering, the perfect accompaniment to seafoods and fresh salad.
