Pepper Tree Strandlines Grand Reserve 2006 CONFIRM 2006 VINTAGE

Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz Wrattonbully South Australia
Strandlines are ancient dunes which mark the retreating oceanfront from what is now Naracoorte Range in Wrattonbully. This unique topography harbours the famed Terra Rossa topsoils over Gambier limestone. The significant value of these soils for viticulture lies in the near perfect drainage they provide, leading to small crops of wonderfully intense fruit. When vintage conditions are considered to be at their optimum, Pepper Tree assemble a wine from their finest barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz to be bottled into the flagship Strandlines.
Strandlines is literally the pick of the pick of Wrattonbully, produced in limited quantities and highly sought. Cabernet Sauvignon is planted to the highest dunes of Pepper Tree's Wrattonbully vineyard. Shiraz is grown on red soils with gravelly ironstone layers on the lower slopes. A mostly Cabernet wine, grapes are treated to five days of cold soak and maceration prior to ferment. Components are vinified on skins at 18C to 20C for a week, some parcels are selected for post ferment maceration. The finished wine is filled to a high proportion of new Vayrac and Treuil, Seguin Moreau, Nadalie and Demptos French and American oak barriques for an extended two years maturation. Alcohol 14.5%
Deeply coloured, rich red hue. An intensely concentrated nose of dark berry fruits, chocolates and plum/ cassis over spiced oak complexity. Ripe Cabernet flavours of blackberry and cassis integrate with the exotic spice and mid palate plum pepper sweetness of Shiraz. Strandlines shows great depth of flavour and solid structure, velvet textures and tame, supportive tannins deliver an intensity of lingering fruit on the long memorable finish.
