Shiraz Grenache Barossa Victoria
Cellar No7 Tawny is a contemporary take on the classic Australian Tawny style. Predominately Shiraz and Grenache grapes assembled with spirit from Cellar No.7 of the famous Blue Stone spirit bond building at Seppeltsfield, it offers vitality and intensity of fruit.
The warm and dry summer climate of the Barossa is idyllic for ripe fruit that's perfectly suited to fortified wine production. A number of vineyard sites, all mature and low yielding, produce the principle fortified varietals of Grenache and Shiraz. Seppeltsfield Wines are the cautious custodians of the priceless collection of fortified old tawny wines spanning more than 150 years of winemaking excellence. This heritage encompasses an expanse of source vineyards and vinicultural skill that remains unsurpassed in reputation for quality. Cellar No.7 Tawny is an assemblage of various fortified vintage wines, matured in small old oak casks underneath the Seppeltsfield wineworks at Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley. Alcohol 18.
Deep golden tawny with slight red hues. Fresh clean and spicy fruit with integrated vanillin oak and rancio derived from the oak maturation. Bouquets that come readily out of the glass and sweep past you with notes of pungent bramble, rancio and dry raisin toast, stonefruits, sour cherry flan and cassis. A complex run of flavours, nutty complexity emanating butterscotch and coffee, peaty and whisky-like, it rolls around the tongue hinting at spice and fruit cakes and querying you about when was your last sniff of sweet port-soaked pipe tobacco. The finish is balanced with wonderfully integrated spirit, clean and fresh. Ideally suited to cheese and coffee, and remarkably refreshing when served chilled.
