Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
De Bortoli has tapped into some of the McLaren Vale's best vineyards, accessing parcels of the most exquisite Shiraz. The lush maritime breezes off the Gulf St Vincent serve to refresh the vines as the grapes ripen in the idyllic Mediterranean climes. Here the Shiraz develops distinctive regional expressions, characterised by rich flavours and velvety tannins. A smooth and seamless palate of ripe dark cherry and bramble, preceded by aromas of lifted spice and toasty oak, to gladden the heart and accompany the finest faire.
De Bortoli is an innovative winemaker, having enjoyed spectacular success throughout it's entire range of wines. The team have ventured out from their environs in the Mallee and Riverina to source grapes from the nation's pre-eminent Shiraz growing region of McLaren Vale. De Bortoli know from good Shiraz and believe that great wine begins in the vineyard. The aim at all times is to practice sustainable viticulture with a minimal interference in the vinification. Wine should have a sense of regionality and be an expression of the soil in which it is grown. De Bortoli strive to create wines which are interesting and exciting, wines that are individual and above all, have provenance and a sense of place.
Deep scarlet red colour. An entry of dark cherry and chocolate aromas, plummyness and spice. Secondary bouquets of vanillan oak, lifted blackberry and mint, a fragrance of violet and the savouryness of briar. On the palate are ripe flavours, blueberry and currant, liquorice, cocoa and pepper. Deluxe tannins support the fruit to a long finish of biscuitty oak and bright berry characters.
