Mont Redon Chateau Cotes du Rhone CONFIRM VINTAGE

Grenache Mourvedre Shiraz Cotes du Rhone France
An assemblage of fruit, picked off vines near the village of Roquemaure on the right bank of the Rhone, between Orange and Avignon. Mostly Grenache with a fifth of Syrah, the earliest vines at Mont Redon date back to ancient times. Protected from the chilling Mistral winds, the canny Romans planted their rootstock at the bottom of a hill which lends its name to the estate. In the middle of the 18th Century, nobleman Joseph Ignace d'Astier acquired Mont-Redon. His descendants still own the property, manage the vines and make Mont Redon Cotes-du-Rhône.
Essentially a Châteauneuf du Pape Domaine with a hundred acres under vine, Mont Redon acquired quality vineyards in Cotes du Rhône thirty years ago to create approachable wines with the structure and potential for development. A mostly Grenache Syrah wine from hand picked and hand sorted fruit, aimed at retaining nothing but the best grapes. Bunches are completely de stemmed and treated to fifteen days maceration for optimal extractions, achieving fine tannic structure. Following vinification in traditional vats and the completion of malolactic, batches are held under the estate cellars for a term of maturation, assembled and bottled for a further spell of ageing before release.
Bright, deep colour. Rich and developed nose, dark berries and raspberries offset by grilled notes and nuance of licorice. A very well structured palate with firm tannin support completed by an outstanding aromatic complexity of red fruits. Fat and round mouthfeel with a long and savoury, spicy finish.
