Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
One of the nation's most innovative winemaking estates, Tyrrell's first started to blend Cabernet with Merlot in the late 1970s. Each year, the Tyrrell team take full advantage of the large tapestry of fruit from a wide expanse of source vineyards as they search for the most complimentery parcels to create a soft, fruit driven Cabernet Merlot wine layered with luscious plum berry fruit flavours and endowed with a measure of affable charm.
Vinified from fruit grown to some of Tyrrell's finest vineyards and crafted with all the artisanal care that the team apply to their estate flagships. The Tyrrell team take on the task of crafting a smooth red wine from the essential fusion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot very seriously. Choice winemaking techniques infuse the wine witth complexity, adding richness of flavour and palate weight. Parcels are treated to a course of skin contact maceration and rest on sedimentery yeast lees after completion of fermenrs for maximum flavour extraction and exquisite balance. The final assemblage of components is determined to a style of integrated varietal fruit flavours and soft, supportive tannins.
A lovely deep purple red hue. Exudes fragrant berry fruit aromas, violet, spices and plum which carry through to the palate. Cherry and dark berry characters, Cabernet leaf and chocolate plum Merlot fruit, a hint of licorice and spice supported by gentle tannins. Old Winery culminates velvety and smooth on a long and lovely, lingering finish.
