Chardonnay Adelaide Hills South Australia
Special Bin A was originally crafted as a close sibling to Penfold's prestigious flagship Yattarna Chardonnay. Subsequent editions of Reserve Bin A were all enthusiastically received upon release and have encouraged the continuation of these superior vintage wines. Special Bins are made to showcase what the Penfolds team can achieve when they have access to small quantities of high quality material from exceptional vintage years. Special Bin A is crafted from a collation of the finest Adelaide Hills Chardonnay available to Penfolds.
Penfolds Reserve Bin A has evolved into a recognizable single region style of its own, a distinctive and contemporary expression of Adelaide Hills Chardonnay. Grapes are all hand picked into small bins and whole bunch pressed. Juices are incrementally filled, directly from the press, into an extravagantly high proportion of new French oak barriques and treated to a natural wild yeast vinification. Every individual barrique creates its own unique 225 litre ferment. Enhanced mouth feel and luxurious complexities are achieved by fermenting on grape solids. All barrels complete full natural malolactic, followed by nine months maturation before bottling without filtration. Alcohol 13.0%
Very light straw with lime green hues. Nectarine and white peach fruits up front, peach blossom overlay, engaging scents of roasted cashew and pistachio nougat, a suggestion of air dried pancetta. Complexing gun smoke and rock flint sulphides arise, compliments of earlier barrel ferment and lees contact. Citrus and lemon sherbet zestiness on the palate, natural limestone acidity. Fruit, acid and barely perceptible oak all cohesively aligned.
