Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
The enthusiastic team at Marius are focused purely on growing the best possible fruit and retaining the pick of the harvest, with a view to making the best possible wine from these choice grapes. Wines of integrity which can best define the character of Shiraz grown to a unique terroir. To let the vineyard speak.
The Marius Vineyard is small, only four and a half acres of Shiraz, situated on rising ground to the southeast of McLaren Vale at an elevation of 170 metres. Ideally positioned to take advantage of maritime climatic influence and the cooling gully breezes on summer evenings. All fruit is sequentially hand harvested over a schedule of ten to twenty days, ensuring parcels are picked to perfection. Mid-rows are not cultivated or tilled, the natural grasses are slashed, no pesticides are employed and the worm population is growing rapidly. Viticultural practices and sustainable land management combine to produce low yields of small bunches characterized by tiny flavoursome berries with a high skin to juice ratio.
Deep dark garnet colour. A vibrant, juicy Shiraz exuding a glorious fragrance of plum, varietal spice and red fruits. Blackberries and red cherry dominate the intense palate, loads of plum, a spectrum of dark fruits, chocolate, coffee and menthol lift.
