Located at Dufftown in Speyside, Balvenie still grow their own barley and adhere to the traditions of a malting floor, the last of its kind in the Scottish Highlands. The resident coppersmith of Balvenie Castle maintains the Stills, a team of coopers ensure that only those barrels in the most perfect condition are employed. The Malt Master presides over the all important maturation of Balvenie for fourteen years in a selection of oak Whisky barrels, finishing the course in a consignment of well seasoned Caribbean casks which have previously held stocks of ageing Rum.
