Lindsay McCall's enthusiasm for great wine began in the 1970s, he established his first Mornington plantings in 1985 on the site of a derelict orchard at Red Hill along Paringa Road. From day one, McCall focused on exactingly managing the soils and the vines, after completing his day job as local school teacher. His affinity for the land and astonishing feel for winemaking produced monumental vintages of Pinot Noir, which propelled the exquisite range of Paringa Estate wines to international renown. Andrew Nugent grew up next door to the great historical wineworks at Penfolds Magill. He honed his craft as viticulturalist and vigneron amongst the illustrious wineries of old McLaren Vale. The pick of estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon from the Beresford property at Blewitt Springs, each parcel of fruit is separately vinified in a selection of traditional two and four tonne open top fermenters, followed by an extravagent three years maturation in a mix of seasoned and new French and American oak hogsheads. The signature softness of McLaren Vale Cabernet, blackberries and currant, mulberry and raspberry fruits, supported by tobacco leaf oak and the herbaceousness of bay leaf and mint, a well proportioned wine of seamless tannins, structure and length.
