There are but two winemakers who can lay claim to a staggering four Jimmy Watson Trophy victories. Wolf Blass was the man behind the label. John Glaetzer was the man behind Wolf Blass. While working for Wolf, Glaetzer was moonlighting on his own brand, applying the same extravagance of technique to the pick of Langhorne Creek fruit. Perfection in the form of black bramble fruit, muscular yet affable tannins, all framed by the luxury of ebony oak. Aspirants of the great Black Blass Label fables of 1974, 1975 and 1976, are privately advised to avail themselves of John's Blend, Cabernet or Shiraz. Crafted from the same parcels, in the same way, by the same hands, that collaborated to create, the most celebrated triumphs in the history of our nation's highest accolade, the Jimmy Watson Memorial.. David Wynn introduced cardboard wine casks, flagons and the Airlesflo wine tap to the nation. He is best remembered for re packaging the Coonawarra estate which bears his name and which endures as one of Australia's icon brands. Wynn was a master of his craft and studied oenology at the world renowned Magill wineworks. An astute marketer and talented blender, he also had a keen eye for the land, investing in the ancient John Riddoch fruit colony and planting vines on a challenging site, high atop the lofty latitudes of Valley Eden. Mountadam Vineyards were built from the ground up, with a view to crafting a limited range of well structured, weighty wines, defined by fuller palates and saline, mineral savouryness. The legacy of Eden Valley vineyards planted by Wynn in the 1960s & 1970s, incorporating significant old rootstock and extinct European clones, remains a bespoke.. Welcome Brut Réserve, a multi vintage assemblage worthy of the most prestige Cuvée. Brut Réserve comprises the three noble varietals in equal measure, a collation of sixty carefully selected crus, the very essence of Champagne in a bottle. Freshness and elegance of Chardonnay, structure from Pinot Noir, a contribution of generous fruit complexity from Pinot Meunier. A large proportion of reserve wines are included, averaging ten years of age. Once bottled, the wine is aged for a minimum of three years under the ancient chalk cellars, or crayéres. An exceptional ageing process for an extraordinary wine, each release has its own personality, its own irresistible charm.
A remarkable lustre, golden straw, an enchanting bead that persists. The nose is delicate but fresh, floral notes and violet, iris and lilac. Complex, voluptuous palate, freshly baked brioche and the richness of praline, amber and vanilla notes, fleshy and full, vinous and elegant. A Champagne that's both complex and delicious, an uncommon voyage of the senses.
