Chardonnay Tamar Valley Tasmania
There really is a Devil's Corner and it's a section of Tamar River, very near Kayena Vineyard. The lee is a calm area of refuge for sailors away from the potentially wild waters of Whirlpool Reach to the south, it has been used as such for over two hundred years. Devils Corner are Tasmanian wines of the highest order, reflecting the natural variations engendered by climate and soil. Crafted from East Coast and Tamar Valley fruit, a Chardonnay wine of beautifully preserved Tasmanian bucolic charm, to accompany creamy risotto and the freshest fishes.
The Devil's Corner vines are closely managed to encourage optimal ripening, characterised by excellent flavour profile, judicious acids and exemplary retention of aromatics. The winemaking team's goal is to harness the pristine fruit characters of the Apple Isle, into distinctive styles of wine that speak of their provenance. Following harvest, grapes are immediately pressed, juices are run off skins and cold settled to remove solids. Some parcels remain unsettled to retain a measure of solid elements. Components are sent to fermenters for vinification under strict temperature controls, maximisizing the integrity and impact of vibrant fruit characters.
Bright, pale straw with green tinges. Zesty lemon/ citrus aromas alongside banana and ripe yellow peach. Crisp, clean and refreshing mouthfeel, lemon and grapefruit, nectarines and a hint of nutmeg spice, flavours linger, satisfying and long. A dry finish with subdued astringency, adding definition to the refreshing palate.
