Halls Gap Vineyard was planted 1969, along the steep eastern slopes and parched rocky crags of Grampians Ranges, at the very beginning of a renaissance in Victorian viticulture. Since early establishment in the 1860s by the noble Houses of Seppelt and Bests, the region had earned the most elite peerage, a provenance of extraordinary red wines, bursting with bramble opulence and lined with limousin tannins. Parcels of fruit which are candidates for inclusion must display the requisite qualities of vibrant flavour profile, profound varietal expression and praiseworthy tannins. Fernando The First is vinified from a collation grown to choice vineyards, eighty years of age, a remarkable expression of Barossa Shiraz, its rich chocolatey palate and sound structure are tightly wound around a carriage of polished oak.

One of Australia's longest continuously operating purveyors of fine wine, Taylor Ferguson can trace their origins back to establishment circa 1898. Today, the team can draw fruit from a substantial catalogue of the finest vineyards from which to construct the most impressive wines. Shiraz from superior sites are selected on the basis of vibrant flavours and exemplary varietal expression. A slow, closely monitored fermentation to a mix of traditional methods and modern technology, together with a minimalist handling has produced a wine of conspicuous character and charm.
A deep plum colour with dark scarlet robes. Rich, clean aromas of blackberry, plum, spice and hints of American oak are carried through into the full bodied and complex palate, lengthening the finish. Barrel aging and a gentle vinification are evident in the fine tannins and balanced fruit characters that linger long on the palate.
