Heirloom Vineyards were born of love. A romance between an esteemed wine judge and his protege, consumated by a shared passion to preserve the integrity of venerable old vineyards. A deference for the sanctity of the soil and adherence to the timeless procedures of organic viticulture, were an integral part of the vision. Their parching quest, to secure some grand old blocks of vine in the elder precincts of Adelaide Hills, Coonawarra, Barossa and Valley Eden, were followed by years of corrective husbandry, pencil label releases and bespoke vintages. The fostered old vines have now been resurrected, yielding treasured harvests of the most sublime new world wine. Thomas Yule now sources fruit from the eminent Justin Vineyard in Frankland River, a dark ruby Shiraz of lifted liquorice and intense brambleberry, seasoned by piquant pepper notes and supported by showroom tannins. Flametree know that if you get the right varieties planted on the right sites you're well on your way to making fantastic wines. A collation of the chocest fruit from good vineyards is assembled to realize more complex and interesting wines. Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from vineyards at the northern end of Margaret River. All care is taken throughout a very gentle handling and vinification to preserve the vigorous Margaret River fruit character. Soft extractions and cool fermentation temperatures achieve a soft, fleshy wine with lovely aromatics. The finished wine is treated to a year's maturation in a selection of seasoned French oak barrels before fining and filtration.
Bright scarlet colour. Blackberry and briar fruits aromas all combine with subtle vanillin oak. Blackberries, plums and dark cherry fruits extend on to the palate where the rich fruit characters merge with subtle oak and gentle tannins to form a lovely medium bodied Cabernet wine, fashioned to a soft, unpretentious and easy drinking style. Match embers with crumbed cotoletta or smoked boudin of veal and lamb.
