Greg Melick embarked on the prodigal road to gambling and booze as a mere teenager, after winning the daily double at Werribee and spending the lot on good red wine. He ultimately returned to the straight and narrow, achieving the rank of ADF Major General, Senior Law Counsel, Master Wine Judge and Officer of Australia AO. Melick now grows his own, he remains besotted with les grands vignobles de Bourgogne, the illustrious Pinot Noir of Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune. Having barely scraped through the ravages of phyloxera and a period of disrepute, the fortunes of Tahbilk were turned around by Purbrick who was the first to market Australian wine under its varietal name. Crystal clear. Lifted aromatics of pine needles and lemon curd, vanilla notes rein in the fragrant spice. Intense, juicy and sweet palate, very very clean. Finger limes highlight the Asian spice, coriander and star anise, complemented by the addition of fresh ginger. Finally, fresh turmeric adds a fresh but earthy quality, not unlike dill, contributing weight to the palate.
