Four Sisters Merlot CONFIRM VINTAGE

Merlot Victoria
Winemaking legend Trevor Mast's daughters created the concept of the Four Sisters as a birthday surprise. Delighted with the idea, Trevor fashioned a small production wine from vines growing behind the family home. It has become one of the nation's most recognizable labels. Enter, Australia's favourite Merlot, a soft, rounded wine with delicate flavours and a subtle hint of sweet cocoa oak, a perfect match to mushroom risotto, beef teriyaki or peking duck.
Merlot is sourced from splendid central Victorian vineyards, hand chosen by the Four Sisters viticultural team on the basis of healthy fruit, consistency and style. Soil types vary from sandy loam soils and clays through to very sandy soils on the banks of Goulburn River. Grapes are harvested throughout the cool hours of early morning, to preserve fruit freshness while retaining all the plummy Merlot varietal characters. The musts are treated to a combination of rotary and sweeping arm fermenters, gently extracting optimal flavour and building the perfect tannin structure. Minimal exposure to oak allows fruit to be the primary feature of the finished wine. Alcohol 14.5%
Rich garnet colour. Delicate fruit aromas of dark berry and stewed plums, complex and lively bouquets of cassis, licorice and spice. The palate exhibits bramble Merlot characters combined with a subtle hint of sweet cocoa. French oak adds an extra savoury spice dimension to the palate. Showing exemplary balance, fine tannins and good varietal definition as the complexity shines.

Four Sisters
Four Sisters is the creation of Trevor Mast of Mount Langi Ghiran, world famous for its Shiraz

What a great idea it was from winemaker Trevor to pop his gorgeous daughters Ineke, Anja, Sophie and Daliah on the label of his award-winning drop, the Four Sisters.

Four Sisters

The Grampians region has a long history of producing elegant, powerful and long lived table wines. Vines were first planted in 1860 and in December 1887 the Ararat Advertiser reported that the local wine had won honours all over the world'

In 1892, there were 92 grapegrowers in the Grampians district with some 1885 acres under vine. With the downturn in the fortunes of the wine industry earlier this century, much of this vineyard was grubbed out with some hardy survivors, such as Bests, keeping the traditions alive. A resurgence in the late 1960s and 1970s lead to the establishment of a new group of wineries, including Four Sisters. Now the Grampians region is once again recognised internationally for the absolute quality of Victorian wines.

Trevor regularly takes his seat as Judge at the National Wine Shows and is a highly regarded stalwart of Victoria's winemaking fraternity. Trevor Mast first entered the industry when he worked at Gilbeys, where he was responsible for the blending of spirits and liqueurs, and later took up a position as microbiologist for Stellenbosch Winery in South Africa.

Four Sisters

One year his four daughters created the wine label design as a birthday surprise. Produced with the help of the eldest daughter Daliah, a graphic designer, the label depicts each one of the sisters Sophie, Anja, Daliah and Ineke. Delighted with the label mock up and his daughters' plans for a wine aptly named Four Sisters, Trevor initially crafted a small production wine from the vineyard growing behind the family home.

With the positive response from all who tried the wine and heard the original story behind it, Four Sisters is now a successful brand with a range of four classic grape varieties.
