Major Sir Thomas Mitchell left more than just an invaluable bequeth of our nation's most detailed frontier maps. Mitchell distinguished himself in Wellington's army during the Napoleonic wars in the renowned 95th Baker Rifles. A gifted draftsman, he found his way to the nascent colonies of Australia, where his acumen at mapmaking won him the office of Surveyor General. During one of Mitchell's historical expeditions, he charted the fertile lands around Victoria's Goulburn Valley, establishing the colonial fruitgrowing township of Mitchell's Town. The district's auspicious orchards flourished until Colin Preece identified the region as an opportune place to grow world class wine. Vineyards thusly planted around the Goulburn billabongs, came to be known as Mitchelton. Now a half century of age, the vines remain one of Victoria's venerable sources of superbly structured, deeply flavoursome wines... Barriques between the billabongs»

Cabernet Franc Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Petit Verdot Tuscany Italy
The panorama from the slopes of Tenuta di Biserno is breathtaking, with views down to the Tyrrhenian Sea all the way to Corsica. Lodovico and Piero Antinori surveyed the land and were struck by the similarities of it's soils with those of Bordeaux. They were inspired to plant Cabernet Franc, the dominant component in Pino di Biserno, joined by varying percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. A super fine Tuscan with remarkable early drinkability which continues to enthuse the wine industry press with each new release.
Tenuta di Biserno is planted to Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot with a view to exploiting the unique soils which are very akin to those found in Bordeaux. Grapes are all picked by hand into 15 kg crates and taken to the Biserno wineworks where they are individually sorted, de-stemmed and gently crushed. The musts are vinified for three to four weeks at 28C before being treated to full malolactic in a selection of barrels and fermenters. Two thirds of the wines are matured twelve months in a combination of new and second use French oak barriques, the balance is aged in vats. Assembled and bottled, the finished Pino di Biserno is rested a further six months in bottle before release.
Intense, bright ruby red. Ripe, soft fruit aromatics, spice, eucalyptus and Mediterranean maquis. A fruit filled palate, ripe acids and supple oak supported by fine tannins before a long, elegant finish.
