There were two scrub covered parcels of land, just outside Pokolbin village along McDonalds Road, that local council had long set aside for use as cricket ground and cemetery. Both were ultimately auctioned off to the highest bidders and sown to vine. A third undeveloped site became the subject of a long running feud among the new and old neighbours. Dodgy invoices between the rivals were exchanged and the division of firewood became a further cause of contention. A truce was eventually called by the two protagonists, Brokenwood and Hungerford Hill, for the sake of healthy viticulture. The nascent blocks achieved international renown as the eminent Cricket.. Sociable soils make for healthy vine»
Graeme Melton and a mate were travelling across South Australia in 1973, their EH Holden was in dire need of maintenance and Graeme took up casual work at a passing winery. The site supervisor was Peter Lehmann and young Graeme had his epiphany on the road to Barossa Valley. Lehmann suggested that Graeme change his name to Charlie and take the pilgrimmage to Vallee Rhone. Charlie became prepossessed with the culture of old vines Grenache, Shiraz and Mourverdre. He returned to the Barossa, at a time when old vineyard fruit was made into flagon Port and growers were destroying their historic sites in return for government grants. Kalleske are one of our nation's most distinguished winegrower families, Barossa through and through, heirs to the tradition of Prussian pastoralists who established South Australia as one of the world's great viticultural precincts. The family Kalleske were the quiet achievers behind the stellar quality of fruit, at the heart of the most memorable vintages Penfolds Grange. Old sites and ancient vines, a tally of which have been branded under the Atze's Corner label, a regal range of stately Barossa wines, irresistibly underpriced in terms of provenance, excellence and sheer delight. Spectacular bouquets, redolent of freshness, fragrance and fruit,.. Small batches of the barossa's very best»
Stephen George grew up amongst the grape vines, very near the hamlet of Reynella and the nascent Skillogalee in Valley Clare. Both salubrious sites which were originally planted to vine by George senior in 1970. Stephen's pioneering work at Ashton Hills was a major catalyst for the development of Adelaide Hills as an internationally renowned wine growing region. Jacobs Creek are well positioned to produce the most luscious and fashionable sparkling Muscat wines. They know their vineyards well and keep an eye on the progress of the fruit as the growing season turns from veraison to ripening and onto vintage. Grapes are harvested early in the vintage, throughout the cool of night, when they have achieved the ideal flavours, the right amount of fruit sugars and perfect acidity. Each batch is gently pressed to retain pristine qualities in the juice, inoculated and vinified separately in temperature controlled tanks to retain the vitality of fresh Moscato grapes. A secondary fermentation adds subtle, creamy complexity, giving the wine its attractive fine gas bead and mousse. Approx 9.0%
Pale straw colour with a petulant bead. Fresh, delicate tropical aromas with undertones of pear and peach followed by hints of honeysuckle blossom. A light and refreshing palate with tropical flavours. The wine marries subtle pear notes with a touch of melon leading to a zesty sparkling finish.
