Dr Frederick Kiel would take the trek by paddle steamer from Melbourne every summer during the late 1800s to spend his summers at Sorrento. His children established a grazing station nearby, on a property acquired from the Baillieu family along Portsea Ocean Beach, ultimately planted to vineyards in 2000. The Kennedy Vineyard is planted to superior winegrowing aspects along the east facing slope of Mount Camel Range, atop Heathcote's internationally renowned Cambrian soils. Uniquely for a blush pink wine, Kennedy treat their fruit to an extravagant course of barrel ferments in a selection of well seasoned French oak. Light onion salmon hues, a delicate nose of summer berries with a touch of spring blossoms, cardamon, strawberries and citrus on the pleasingly drying palate, all supported by a lithely refreshing acidity.
