Henry Best was a highly industrious merchant and butcher who serviced Ararat miners during the Victorian gold rush. He planted thirty hectares of vine along Concongella Creek in 1866 and constructed a commercial cellar wineworks which continue to process the most spectacular vintages until the present day. The heirloom plantings of Henry Best remain productive, as some of the most historically significant rootstock in the world. Home of the Jimmy Watson 2012 Trophy, Royal Sydney 2013 Australian Wine Of Year, James Halliday 2014 Wine of Year, Distinguished and Outstanding Langtons Classifications. Remarkable for a style that's all their own, chiselled, brooding and black. Best's Great Western endures as one of the new world's most preeminent, yet bewilderingly soft spoken viticultural estates. One of Australia's great Rieslings, Leo Buring exhibits generous fruit complexity while young and will continue to develop with careful cellaring, well into the future.

Over the past seventy years, many of memorable wines have been released under the Leo Buring label. In 2002 the winery returned to its roots, making only Riesling. Leo Buring's tireless efforts to introduce Australian palates to table wine have been far reaching. His influence on the industry, ranging from technical advice to government reports, resulted in many improvements to Australian viticulture. To this day, the Buring estate retains some of Australia's most distinguished Riesling vineyards. All grapes are hand picked and carefully handled, to prevent oxidisation while preserving clean fruit flavours. Following vinification and settling, Leo Buring is bottled immediately after assemblage to maintain freshness.
Very light straw, pale lime green hues. Calico cotton, lifted, full, floral notes of the first yellow freesias of spring and a hint of daphne. Restrained rapier acidity underlies bright, green, fresh squeezed lime, citrus blossom, structural backbone of sun baked, crystalline quartzite provides an enduring minerality which persists and tantalizes with mouth watering natural acidity. A compelling Eden Valley Riesling with the soundest structure.
