An Irish cobbler named Reilly settled into the tiny Clare Valley township of Mintaro circa 1856. He converted a stone barn into a homestead cottage. Reilly's Cottage served as the local cobbler's shop in the centre of the bustling town, which had boomed after the establishment of salubrious slate quarries. Almost 140 years later, the cottage has been restored to its former glory by relatives of Reilly, the family Ardill, once again it is a hive of activity, home to the eminent and award winning range of Reilly.. Kooyong Estate only make limited editions from tiny blocks of vine, a hectare or less, which yield deeply personal wines, highly eloquent of their terroir, aspect and clime. There are the pebbled ironstone soils of Farrago, which create an uncannily Burgundesque style of Chardonnay, redolent of grapefruits, mealy bran and wet flint. The precious half hectare at Faultline articulates the savouryness of seaweed and struck match. The sheltered lee of Haven Block encourages the grapes to bloom with chewy red jube characters. The windswept parcel at Meres infuses wonderfully perfumed rhubarb and ribena notes into a velvetine tannin structure. All are equally remarkable for their individuality, they speak of little places, husbanded to artisanal winemaking practices, the most wonderful expressions of Mornington... Assembled from a range of vintages, the older wines bringing an intensity of flavour, rancio and grape tannins, gently imparting the influence of time, as the wines evolve within a selection of seasoned casks and fine oak barrels.

The grapes are left to hang on the vine to concentrate in flavour and sugar. Hand picked, a partial fermentation, before draining, pressing, and fortification with high strength neutral spirit. The wine is then transferred to casks and barrels for many years of maturation, where the wine will concentrate in flavour and gain more texture and lusciousness. When blending the Premium Tokay only the best wines from the best vintages are chosen, all of which have won awards at major Australian Wine Shows.
