Coonawarra graziers have access to the finest soils for viticulture. Doug Balnaves was born in the very heart of Coonawarra, quite near the sacred cricket pitch at Penola. An accomplished herdsman and shearer, Balnaves took up the challenge of planting vineyards in 1971. Working under the tutelage of legendary Coonawarra winemaker Bill Redman, Balnaves immersed himself in the culture of the vine, ultimately establishing a grande marque of Coonawarra and securing the inaugural presidency of the Coonawarra Vignerons Association. He remains a lifelong member of the Penola Pipe Band. For those who like their wines structured yet satin, powerful yet prettily perfumed, in the mouthfillingly muscular Coonawarra way, the Balnaves brand endures in the tradition of world.. Major Sir Thomas Mitchell left more than just an invaluable bequeth of our nation's most detailed frontier maps. Mitchell distinguished himself in Wellington's army during the Napoleonic wars in the renowned 95th Baker Rifles. A gifted draftsman, he found his way to the nascent colonies of Australia, where his acumen at mapmaking won him the office of Surveyor General. During one of Mitchell's historical expeditions, he charted the fertile lands around Victoria's Goulburn Valley, establishing the colonial fruitgrowing township of Mitchell's Town. The district's auspicious orchards flourished until Colin Preece identified the region as an opportune place to grow world class wine. Vineyards thusly planted around the Goulburn billabongs, came to be known as.. Barriques between the billabongs»

Duval was awarded International Wine & Spirit Competition Winemaker of Year and twice London International Red Winemaker of Year. Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mataro CONFIRM VINTAGE

Shiraz Mourvedre South Australia
The abstruse Bin 2 saw its inaugural vintage in 1960 but was discontinued until the 1970s. Originally branded as an Australian Burgundy, Bin 2 has always been a soft, medium bodied mix of Mourverdre and Shiraz characterised by complexity and palate grip. Treated to a year's maturation in seasoned French and American oak, its succulent, juicy and fresh Rhônesque orientation is underpinned by an alluring savoury base of quinces and date pudding, decidedly old world in styling, the understated affluence of Bin 2 demands deliberation and calls for cuisine.
