Chardonnay South Australia
Since inaugural release, Koonunga Hill has continued to deliver an engaging Chardonnay wine in the traditional Penfold style. Koonunga Hill is now considered by many to be amongst Australia's best values in white wine, the final word in easy drinking Chardonnay. A well proportioned palate with a level of intensity and excellent varietal definition over a subtle underlay of moderate oak. Matured in a selection of small French barriques, Koonunga Hill is richly concentrated with plenty of distinctive primary fruit characters, supported by textural, creamy flavours.
Koonunga Hill reflects the Penfold multi region, multi vineyard blending policy, enabling the team to source the best fruit possible to produce consistently high quality wines from each and every vintage. Launched in 1993, Koonunga Hill offers exceptional quality in a fully approachable Chardonnay wine. Koonunga Hill take aim to construct a full flavoured style with distinctive primary fruit characters, sustained intensity and a subtle underlay of moderate oak. Grapes are sourced from choice vineyards which can deliver harvests of Chardonnay that meet the stringent Penfold requirements. Components are matured under French oak for several months, a portion remains unoaked to retain fresh fruit focus.
Straw in colour. Clean and fresh bouquet with citrus notes and lifted florals that give way to green melon and subtle spicy oak nuances. A light to medium bodied Chardonnay with orchard fruits and citrus notes, it's gentle creaminess provides texture on the palate while brisk acidity keeps the finish crisp and clean, with refreshing length. A match to kebabs, pork belly and cottage chicken pie.
