In 1866, plans to build a new stone cellar were sanctioned by Seppeltsfield's founder John Seppelt. In 1878 the stone cellar was completed by hi son Benno. To celebrate, in a gesture considered innovative and inspiring, Benno selected a puncheon of his finest wine and gave instructions that it was not to be bottled for a hundred years. This became a magnificent tradition and Seppeltsfield Wines is now the only winery in the world to have significant stocks of wine laid down over consecutive vintages for more than a century.

Vintaged under the ancient 1878 Seppeltsfield cellars and fortified by an estate made distillate, 100 Year Tawny is aged in 500 litre oak (puncheons) for a century.
Dense impenetrable tawny brown. Initial lift of alcohol followed by toffee, raisin fruit and festive cake, powerful aged characters dominate, supported by a sweet vanillin oak lift. Sweet and viscous palate, rancio flavours and dark chocolate, the influence of aged oak. A considerable length of exquisite intensity, in spite of its advanced years, still a very fresh and vibrant wine with a peerless measure of elegance.
