Established 1908, Redman's Coonawarra are still made by the Redman brothers from fruit grown to the original family parcels. The tradition began 1901 when Bill Redman, at the tender age of fourteen, made the journey to take up an apprenticeship at the John Riddoch wineworks and to labour amongst Coonawarra's founding vineyards. Bill Redman's earliest vintages were sold off to other companies but it was not until 1952 that the Redman family released their own wines under the moniker Rouge Homme. Redman was finally branded under its own label in 1966, it remains one of the most enduring marques in Coonawarra. Legendary Penfold winemaker John Duval began his apprenticeship in 1974 under the tutelage of the late great Max Schubert. Duval's family had been supplying Penfolds with fruit and root stock for generations, many of South Australia's most prestigious vineyards were sown with cuttings from Duval's family property. Duval was awarded International Wine & Spirit Competition Winemaker of Year and twice London International Red Winemaker of Year. Tempranillo Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Malbec Ribero Del Duero Spain
Traditionally in Spain, the few wineries that bottled their own fruit, most sold straight from cask, denoted Reserva Especial they represented an assemblage of the finest harvests, the most representative work of the winery. A cepage of varying proportions, Tempranillo and Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, treated to an extended maturation in a selection of new and seasoned, French and American oak casks and larger format vats for many years. The oak vessels themselves are a critical part of the vinification, coopered within the very grounds of the Vega Sicilia wineworks.
Scarlet colour with dark core. Complex nose of bright, vibrant fruit fragrances, cassis, cherry and spice over a background of tobacco, mineral and aromatic oak. A sweet and savoury palate of youthful, dark berry flavours supported by velvet tannins and liqueured, piquant acids before a seemingly endless finish.
