Heirloom Vineyards were born of love. A romance between an esteemed wine judge and his protege, consumated by a shared passion to preserve the integrity of venerable old vineyards. It was a matrimony between an American biochemist and the founder of Margaret River Devils Lair, that set the scene for one of the nation's most illustrious estates. Rockbare are raiders of precious but wayward vineyards, planted to outdated standards of viticulture, sadly unviable for large scale winemaking. Winemaker Tim Burvill worked at Wynns and Penfolds, where he refined his style alongside some of the best winemakers in the nation's history. Wiliam Fevre are the largest retainers of Cru Bougros, operating six of the twelve hectares of vine, grown to predominantly clay soils which are somewhat deeper than those of sub Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots. This distinguished climat lies at the very western end of the Côte des Grands Crus, at altitudes ranging from 130 to 170 metres, on rather deep marl and clay terroirs on a southwest exposure. Cru Bougros produces rich and characterful styles of wine, articulate of Chablis with a measure of elegance and finesse.
