Originally formulated by John Charles Brown OBE in 1954 and crafted to this very day in the exact same manner, Brown Brothers flagship icon endures as one of the nation's most distinguished single vineyard wines. Samuel Smith migrated from Dorset England to Angaston in the colony of South Australia circa 1847, he took up work as a gardener with George Fife Angas, the virtual founder of the colony. Yalumba have been making this very style of wine since the 1850s and retain much of the nation's most precious stocks. The old and mature, dry grown vineyards of Rutherglen are ideally suited for producing harvests of the richest fruit. The grapes ripen with considerable raisining of the berries, regularly achieving over twenty degrees of baume. After many years of maturation, a selection of older and younger wines are judiciously assembled to produce a complexity and balance of fruit and aged rancio characters. An average of seven years maturation in casks of seasoned French oak imparts wonderful liqueured fruit sweetness in the final wine.
Deep amber to tawny colour. The classic perfumed aromas of Muscat grapes, rose petal and rancio, licorice and chocolates, tobacco leaf, ginger and orange peel. Soft, luscious textures, richly flavoured, displaying a balance of freshness and aged richness. The finish is full and edifying, raisined friuts and spice lingering long on the aftertaste.
