Established just eleven years after the founding of South Australia, the ancient vines in the Hundred Of Moorooroo were planted circa 1836 by the Jacob brothers, after accompanying Colonel William Light on the Seven Special Surveys expedition to populate Adelaide's north. Yalumba have been making this very style of wine since the 1850s and retain much of the nation's most precious stocks. The old and mature, dry grown vineyards of Rutherglen are ideally suited for producing harvests of the richest fruit. The grapes ripen with considerable raisining of the berries, regularly achieving over twenty degrees of baume. After many years of maturation, a selection of older and younger wines are judiciously assembled to produce a complexity and balance of fruit and aged rancio characters. An average of seven years maturation in casks of seasoned French oak imparts wonderful liqueured fruit sweetness in the final wine. Alcohol 18.0%
Deep amber to tawny colour. The classic perfumed aromas of Muscat grapes, rose petal and rancio, licorice and chocolates, tobacco leaf, ginger and orange peel. Soft, luscious textures, richly flavoured, displaying a balance of freshness and aged richness. The finish is full and edifying, raisined friuts and spice lingering long on the aftertaste.
