Returning to his home along the Nagambie Lakes after the completion of service during World War II, Eric Purbrick discovered a cache of wine, hidden circa 1876 under the family estate cellars. Though pale in colour, it was sound and drinkable after seven decades. Yalumba have pioneered almost every development in new world viticulture for over a century. Made to a holistic philosophy, fermented through the action of wild, indigenous yeasts and subject to minimal intervention, an organically grown and crafted wine is ironically an embrace of old fashioned methods. Vigilance and attention in the vineyard translates into a finished wine of excellent flavour profile and solid tannin structure. Exacting standards of viticulture are employed to ensure that grapes are in perfect condition when picked and arrive at the winery in the cleanest, healthiest state.
