Greg Melick embarked on the prodigal road to gambling and booze as a mere teenager, after winning the daily double at Werribee and spending the lot on good red wine. He ultimately returned to the straight and narrow, achieving the rank of ADF Major General, Senior Law Counsel, Master Wine Judge and Officer of Australia AO. Melick now grows his own, he remains besotted with les grands vignobles de Bourgogne, the illustrious Pinot Noir of Cote de Nuits and Cote de Beaune. There are few places in the world, more akin to the 1er Grand Cru style of Pinot Noir, than the temperate pastures along Tasmania's River Derwent. It was here in 2002, amongst the woodland idylls of the apple isle, that Melick established Pressing Matters, a meagre four hectares of superior European clones Pinot Noir. Mr.. There are but two winemakers who can lay claim to a staggering four Jimmy Watson Trophy victories. Wolf Blass was the man behind the label. John Glaetzer was the man behind Wolf Blass. While working for Wolf, Glaetzer was moonlighting on his own brand, applying the same extravagance of technique to the pick of Langhorne Creek fruit. Perfection in the form of black bramble fruit, muscular yet affable tannins, all framed by the luxury of ebony oak. Aspirants of the great Black Blass Label fables of 1974, 1975 and 1976, are privately advised to avail themselves of John's Blend, Cabernet or Shiraz. Crafted from the same parcels, in the same way, by the same hands, that collaborated to create, the most celebrated triumphs in the history of our nation's highest accolade, thrice winners of the.. Cleanskin Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 - Buy
Cabernet Sauvignon Coonawarra South Australia
Coonawarra Cabernet has established itself as a unique genre of Australian wine. The vibrant Terra rossa soils which lie under tiny Coonawarra's superlative vineyards, impart powerful flavours and magnificent richness to the finished wines. This unlabelled offering exudes the characteristic blackberry and currant highlights which distinguish the noble Cabernet, accompanied by spice and vanilla characters that are the hallmarks of quality oak. Excellent value, which in less bountiful years would be branded with the winemaker's label.
Generations of devoted winegrowing families have tended the precious vineyards which yield the noble Coonawarra Cabernet. Through successive vintages, the viticulture and vinification techniques have developed into a science and an art. Grapes are sourced from choice vineyards and treated to a skilled, minimalist handling of fruit, to realize a solidly structured Cabernet wine with a finely balanced, full flavoured palate, framed by assertive tannins and well integrated oak. Ready for enjoyment right now, after a spell of maturation under a combination of fine oak barrels, the signature style of Coonawarra Cabernet, a worthy accompaniement to choice cuts of beef and all robust cuisine.
Dark red purple colour. Rich plum and blackcurrant bouquets with intense blueberry scents and red fruit characters, violets and mint. A persistence of parched berry flavours on the palate, a firm yet pliant tannin backbone serves to support and embellish the fruit. Highly regional, it may be a cleanskin but the quality and provenance distinguishes this wine and places it squarely in the best value category.
