Planted to elevated terrains, the sandy loam over sandstone and quartz soils, topography and climate vary considerably to the flats and rolling hills of his native Barossa. It is generally wetter, cooler and the soils tend to be skeletal and minerally. Aspect also varies significantly, with rolling hills and valleys providing much site variation. Following harvest and the crush, the opulent Shiraz berries are fermented and matured nine months in a selection of seasoned 500 litre American oak puncheons. Alcohol 14.5%
A deep purple/ black colour. Bouquet of chocolate and mulberry, with vanilla oak. A medium palate weight dominated by red fruits over a clean and pure structure, the wine is highlighted by buoyant acidity, subtle spice and a juicy finish. The red fruit flavours and velvety, chocolate tannins support a central core of vibrant spice and redolent plum throughout the wine, reflecting the cooler climate origins and punching well above its weight.
