Lord of the Isles is the supreme expression of Ardbeg. At 25 years old this whisky embodies the richness, depth and sweetness of all Ardbegs. Bottled at 46% and non chill filtered for the natural flavours and aromas of Ardbeg to develop. Light gold in colour and powerful in character, this supreme expression of Ardbeg celebrates a period in Scottish history which saw Islay as the stronghold of Somerled, the Lord of the Isles. Beautifully packaged and presented in a burnished gold case, this whisky is exceptional in every way.
Despite the tremendous popularity of Ardbeg across the world, the distillery experienced fluctuating fortunes. By 1981, it was mothballed. Jobs were lost and the last vestiges of the community crumbled. It seemed the Jewel of Islay might be lost to the world forever. Unrelenting demand however demanded that small scale distilling resumed at Ardbeg in 1989. Some stock from that time and from ensuing years is still used in the 10 Years Old. Glenmorangie plc stepped in to revive, repair and restore the distillery back to its former glory. The stills were faithfully replicated down to the tiniest detail, and familiar faces are working again. The original buildings today are a hub of activity for locals and visitors alike
