Collector's item 96 points Whisky Bible 2011
A highly special limited edition, for the most discerning fine spirit enthusiast, Gold Centenary 18 Years represents the end of an era for Johnnie Walker. Fashioned to the same style as Gold Label Reserve, Centenary is assembled from a reserve of fifteen precious Malts, all aged for at least eighteen years, selected through a barrel cull of Scotland's most distinguished old Distilleries. As the world's stocks of aged and superior old Malts continue to ebb, Centenary will be remembered as a superior and enduring experience in Blended Malt Whisky.
Not far from Inverness in the Northern Highlands, the pristine waters of Clynemilton Burn run a course through veins of riverbed gold deposits, before being piped to Clynelish Distillery. Established by the first Duke of Sutherland shortly after Waterloo, to compete against the trade in bootleg Whisky, the long lived success of Clynelish Malt is due in no small part to the quality of local barley. Johnnie Walker calls on the most superior old barrels of Clynelish Malt to form the backbone of Centenary Gold, assembled alongside components of the most exquisite eighteen year old Malts from Cardhu and thirteen eminent Scottish Distilleries.
Rich gold colour, glints of old gold. Revealing a full and round, deeply complex nose, soft perfumes of raisins and toffee, fresh malt and light cream notes. A richly laden palate of delicate smoothness, generously complex, a cryptic array of aged fruit, candied oak and developed Malt characters, creamyness, mealy peatyness and supply sweet pipe smoke, as enticing as it is sensuous. A distinctly smooth, sweet and luxurious character, stylish elegance, refinement and rare charm.
