Chardonnay Yarra Valley Victoria
Hoddles Creek Estate were established 1997 when the D'Anna family planted vines on property they had the foresight to acquire in 1960. Estate winemaker Franco D'Anna attributes his traineeship at Coldstream Hills, for the rigorous hygiene practices which are fundamental to the excellence of Hoddles Creek wine. Enter a generously flavoured Yarra Valley Chardonnay which captures the attention with its depth of colour and pungent nose, earning massive accolades with every vintage, for the talented Hoddles Creek viticultural and winemaking team.
To preserve the vivid fruit flavours and beautiful balance of upper Yarra Valley Chardonnay, grapes are hand picked throughout the cool morning hours, immediately destemmed and lightly crushed into a press. Juices are chilled, settled and given time for skin contact to draw some phenolic. Juices are inoculated through a combination of wild and cultured yeasts to add layers of complexity and enhance vineyard expression, followed by transfer to a mix of oak barrels and fermenters for several days vinification at 18°C to 21°C. Components are treated to fortnightly battonage on lees for up to a year before assembling into the final wine, cold stabilized and fined before bottling.
Straw yellow colour. Aromas of honeycomb and summer breeze. Lemons and brulee to the palate, an effusive young wine exhibiting crisp stone fruit characters, minerality and gently spiced French oak before a lingering, fruit filled finish, elegant and pleasingly dry. A match to coquille st jacques, seared pesto chicken breast or tuna steaks with under dill, champignon and creme fraiche.
