Shiraz Viognier Adelaide Hills South Australia
Gold Label is an ever evolving proposition, as emergent and resurgent genres in wine serve to enthuse the impassioned team at the House of Blass. As a prolific award winner, Gold Label inspires Wolf Blass to produce a beautifully perfumed, piquant style of Shiraz, endowed with a chewy palate of complex Rhonesque fruit. Viognier contributes lift without dominating, bringing winsome aromatics and Fleurs blanches, apricots and Frais des Bois.
Shiraz is sourced entirely from low yielding vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. Grapes grown to these select sites best display the qualities of the cooler microclimes of the region, so renowned for yielding succulent Shiraz and fragrant Viognier. Each vineyard parcel is inoculated separately for up to ten days in small batch open fermenters. One parcel of Shiraz is co-fermented with a small percentage of Viognier, contributing lifted fragrances to the nose and intensifying the vibrant colour of the finished wine. Parcels are gently pressed then racked to barrel for a year's repose in a combination of new and prior use French oaks, followed by a light filtration before bottling.
Soft crimson red in the glass, purple robes. The nose exudes intensely lifted aromas of pepper, blackberries and cassis. These characters move onto the palate, joined by boysenberry, white pepper and ripe black fruits, interwoven by ribbons of cassis, violet and exotic spice. A medium bodied Shiraz in sultry French styling, velvety textured, stately tannins and extreme length.
