It was a matrimony between an American biochemist and the founder of Margaret River Devils Lair, that set the scene for one of the nation's most illustrious estates. A member of the Top 1OO Wineries of World, Giant Steps were established 1997, with a view to assembling an elite range of limited release Yarra Valley vintages. Crafted from the fruit of superior sites, some yielding just a few hundred cases each year, these are exclusive editions from bespoke parcels of elite terroir, bearing the curiously cryptic monikers of precious blocks of vine, Gruyere Farm, Applejack and Wombat Creek. Fashioned for aficianados of the euro style, defined by their winsome fruit and graceful tannins, the Giant Steps single vineyard range are all distinct for their expression.. Sandro Mosele is one of Victoria's most accomplished vignerons, his celebrated editions of Kooyong and Port Phillip estates are amongst the most cherished renderings of Burgundy styled Pinot Noir in the nation. Mosele has applied his art to a precious parcel of fruit, picked off a single, modest block of vine, grown to the fully fertile soils of a lamb and beef stud, on the brisk, maritime blown coastals of Gippsland South. This is not Pinot for profit, Walkerville represents an aesthetic appreciation of fruit from the farmer, invigorated by the blessings of providence and consecrations of local livestock. A cornucopia of comely characters, forcemeats and fennel, pectins and pith, Walkerville make Pinot Noir as it should be, bucolic, pastoral, articulate of the.. The grazier's garden of gippsland»
There are but two winemakers who can lay claim to a staggering four Jimmy Watson Trophy victories. Wolf Blass was the man behind the label. John Glaetzer was the man behind Wolf Blass. While working for Wolf, Glaetzer was moonlighting on his own brand, applying the same extravagance of technique to the pick of Langhorne Creek fruit. Perfection in the form of black bramble fruit, muscular yet affable tannins, all framed by the luxury of ebony oak. Aspirants of the great Black Blass Label fables of 1974, 1975 and 1976, are privately advised to avail themselves of John's Blend, Cabernet or Shiraz. Crafted from the same parcels, in the same way, by the same hands, that collaborated to create, the most celebrated triumphs in the history of our nation's highest.. The Adelaide Plains are just ten meters above sea level and are rejuvenated every day by the cooling maritime breeze of Gulf St Vincent, you can actually see the ocean from Primo's vineyard. A sunny dry climate and sandy loam soils are perfect for growing the late ripening Colombard. Harvest is always eagerly awaited, as La Biondina represents small batch winemaking at its best. Parcels are picked through separate passes across a spectrum of ripeness levels to achieve the perfect balance between tropically aromatic fruit characters and crisp grape acidity. A long cool vinification, followed by a prompt assemblage and early bottling preserves all the deirably delicate fruit flavours and freshness.
Pale straw hues. Light, fresh passionfruit and citrus fill the bouquet, La Biondina has always been a delight. The mouthwateringly lively, exuberant palate exhibits juicy passionfuit, melon and citrus flavours, offering the taste of summer all year round. A wonderful freshness throughout, and zing, the mouth watering, fruit driven palate is the signature of this style, tangy and juicy, finishing with a faint sweetness.
