Pinot Noir Chardonnay French Champagnes Reims France
In 1876 Tsar Alexander II asked that his personal Champagne be presented in crystal bottles, thus giving rise to the very first prestige Cuvee. Cristal is made from the finest wines pressed from the highest quality grapes, grown to the most superior Louis Roederer vineyards. Today it is still produced in limited quantities, always as a vintage wine and only in exceptional years. Rich and vinous, the elite Roederer style is characterised by finesse and elegance, Cristal exudes an enticingly delicate bouquet and perfect balance of fruit.
Chosen from the finest Crus of the ten most celebrated Louis Roederer vineyards, Cristal embodies the spirit of perfectionism that is the mark of this grande House of Champagne. That perfectionism is apparent at every release of the elite Cristal Roederer, within every nuance and subtle variation that conspires to give the exceptional Cristal its pleasurable taste and magnificent quality. A super rich blend of the highest quality Champagne grapes 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay. Aged for five years in it's own bottle on the initial sediment (lees) before disgorgement. It then enjoys a doseage of 11-12g/L liqueur, whereupon it is resealed under it's final cork and aged for a further six months.
A lustrous amber yellow colour with an effervescence that is vibrant and smooth, and borders on cream. An exuberant bouquet revealing aromas of ripe fruits lightly steeped in alcohol (blackcurrant, cherries in eau-de-vie), together with toasty and wooded notes. A disarmingly refined wine with a bead like a parfait, a well bodied palate and a long powerful finish. The richness and depth of the great Cristal Roederer makes it the ideal Champagne to accompany the most refined and exquisite cuisine. New England obster or langouste with black and white truffles.
