Shiraz Barossa South Australia
Langtons Excellent Classification. From ancient vines planted in the 1890s, Elderton Command has established an enviable reputation since inaugural vintage, one of Australia's most eminent icon wines. Accolades have come from the world over, the 1992 was rated by Robert Parker as one of the world's top eighty wines. Vintage 1996 claimed Trophy for best Shiraz in the world at the prestigious London International Wine and Spirit Competition.
Command Shiraz is an expression of place, grapes are hand picked off a single elite block of old vines on the Elderton property. Grown to rich river silt soils and red brown earth over limestone, under a balmy Mediterranean climate, closely cropped to less than four tonnes per hectare. Fruit is treated to a regimen of header down boards in traditional open fermenters for several days. Long term maturation, almost three years, begins in a selection of completely new American and French oak puncheons, followed by transfer into older oak barrels after a year and twelve months bottle age prior to release, an exceptional old vines Shiraz that will continue to engage wine entusiasts for generations to come.
Very dark purple with bright magenta hues. A powerful bouquet showing lovely seductive chocolate, violet liqueur and delicious oak characters. Big, ripe and powerful palate, ultimately seductive, offering velvety textures in support of rich plum, dark cherry chocolate, bramble and coffee/ pepper flavours that echo beautifully as the finish sails on and on.
