Cabernet Sauvignon Langhorne Creek South Australia
Grey Label has always been produced from the best Cabernet Sauvignon that Wolf Blass can source, from the finest vineyards in Langhorne Creek. Grey Label is a very special member of the Wolf Blass wine family. Apart from being the founder's favourite wine, it was the first to carry his name when released in 1967. This legendary wine is conspicuous for it's regional eucalypt and mint characters, savoury tannins and generous, black cherry flavoured palate. Grey Label traditionally mates well with chargilled, braised or roasted red meats.
Langhorne Creek is renowned for it's rich soils, nourished by the Bremer River's flooding, which drives the development of powerful tannin profiles and distinctive flavours in the fruit. Wolf Blass identified this region as an essential source of fruit, it was one of the key components in some of his most memorable vintages. Following harvest and the crush, Cabernet Sauvignon was treated to a relatively warm ferment for the extraction of maximum colour and flavour. Each parcel was separately pressed and sent to barrel for malolactic. Upon completion, components were racked and returned to a selection of new French and American oak barrels for two years maturation.
Deep crimson red colour with tawny robes. The nose exhibits spices and mint, chocolates and rich berry fruit fragrances. The medium to full bodied palate is rich with exceptional depth of fruit, blueberries and meat reduction, layered with cherry/berry fruit flavours supported by firm but gentle tannins, regional Langhorne Creek eucalypt, cocoa and chocolatey oak.
