Shiraz South Australia
Yalumba are synonymous with Shiraz and have amassed a comprehensive knowledge of the finest viticultural precincts in all Australia. The estate patriarch shares a history with the founders of Barossa Valley and the first planters of Australian Shiraz. Y Series is a thoroughly elegant Shiraz offering a vibrant berry nose, hints of licorice, spices and delicious mocha oak. The palate is complex and displays yummy flavours of berry and plum, an excellent weight and depth of fruit is balanced by fine tannins.
In the 1970s, Yalumba made a far sighted decision to establish its own vine nursery. Today it is one of the nation's largest, supplying vines to winemakers from coast to coast. Y Series is sourced from vineyards with can yield grapes worthy of the Yalumba moniker. The label depicts Yalumba's very own coopers toiling at their craft of fabricating oak barrels, a proud tradition within an industry that can find few of these truly gifted artisans. Choice parcels of Shiraz, destined for Y Series are vinified in a mix of static potters and rotary fermenters. Warm temperatures at the onset of vinification and several days of post ferment maceration extract soft fleshy tannins and build structure.
Deep crimson red. Aromas of rhubarb and cherry ripe, complemented by a hint of toasty French oak. The palate shows a core of sweet, boysenberrie, rhubarb and cherry ripe over juicy tannins, luscious textures and medium bodied structure before a persistence of fruit on the fine lingering finish. The perfect accompaniment to Mediterranean inspired cuisines.
