Semillon Sauvignon Blanc Riesling Barossa + Eden South Australia
Poacher's Blend embraces a spectrum of aromatics, from the fresh, tropical fruit of Sauvignon Blanc to the greener mineral of Semillon. Importantly, Semillon is picked at three different ripeness levels. The younger Semillon brings natural acidity, a moderately riper component proffers herbaceousness, the fully ripe adds mouthfeel and richer grapefruit citrus elements. Sauvignon Blanc is picked relatively early to retain the gooseberry lift, importantly the Riesling component contributes backbone and floral lime citrus characters.
To maintain consistency, grapes are sourced from various sites throughout the Barossa and Eden Valleys, contributions of fruit from nearly all of St Hallett's growers. The aim is to preserve the fresh varietal characters by gentle handling, minimal intervention and by keeping the fruit and juices as pristine as possible. Each parcel is separately fermented at cool temperatures to retain the vital expression of grapes in the vineyard. Poacher's Blend is finished with a judicious level of phenolic textural richness, to lift fruit flavours and give the wine a crisp, structured backbone with the capacity to evolve. Vinified immediately after harvest and bottled very soon after vintage. Alcohol 12.0%
Pale yellow with subtle green hues. The nose is brimming full of tropical fruit aromas, passionfruit and melon, pineapple with underlying lime and grassy aromas. Full flavoured and generous, the palate exhibits an array of flavours which persist over the whole length of palate, finishing with a twist of lime. The slightly phenolic backbone provides structure and mouthfeel, balanced by crisp acidity.
