Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia
Rawson's Retreat is the entry level to Australia's most famous wine. Penfolds present the classic South Australian accord of Cabernet and Shiraz, a genre unto itself, in an approachable, fresh flavoured, early drinking style. The label is an informal reference to the place where Christopher Rawson Penfold settled after migrating from England with wife Mary and daughter Georgina in 1845. Dr Penfold had a firm belief in the medicinal value of wine and obtained vine cuttings from the south of France, replanting them around his homestead at Rawson's Retreat.
Introduced in the mid 1990s to meet the demand for an everyday drinking Penfold Shiraz Cabernet, crafted to the essential Penfold style, Rawson's Retreat is one of Australia's most popular red wines within it's range. Drawing on Penfolds extensive vineyard resources, Rawson's Retreat offers a first rate quality and value guarantee, presenting the enthusiast of goos red wine with an everyday taste of Shiraz Cabernet at it's best. Harvests are drawn from the finest vineyards in the eminent districts of Padthaway and Langhorne Creek, the Riverland and McLaren Vale. Components are fermented and matured under a combination of fine French and American oaks.
Dark cherry red colour. Lifted, fresh and lively nose, offering an array of ripe summer berries and dark spice with just a touch of subtle oak lurking in the background. A lovely balance of summer berries and light spice with soft tannins adding length to the palate. This medium bodied Shiraz Cabernet has an attractive fleshy middle palate and juicy freshness on the finish, ideal for early drinking and regular enjoyment.
