Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River Western Australia
Margaret River is renowned for iconic Cabernet wines which capture the effect of refreshing maritime winds on the vines. Winemaker Sam Glaetzer leads the Cartwheel team, bringing with him a wealth of award winning experience which has become synonymous with the Glaetzer family name. Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon grown to choice vineyards, sited on well drained sandy loams over water retentive clay loams, has been fashioned into an indulgent, forward drinking experience. Enjoy with crispy skin duck or char grilled steak.
Cartwheel's Sam Glaetzer worked as a cellarhand at Barossa Valley Estates and went on to various roles within Beringer Blass. He is an Environmental Engineer and is focused on the highest standards of sustainable viticulture. Fruit is sourced from vineyard sites around the warmer, northern part of the Margaret River region, carefully managed to produce distinctly regional Cabernet wines. Grapes are harvested and crushed, destemmed and vinified in temperature controlled vessels. Following fermentation, the wines are racked into a selection of new and prior use French and American oak barrels. After a year of maturation, parcels are assessed and assembled into the final wine before filtration and bottling.
Vibrant dark cherry red. The nose unleashes powerful blackcurrant, ripe black cherry and cedar aromas supported by dark chocolate, coffee bean and tobacco characters. The subtle influence of spicy, charry oak is also present on the nose. The palate displays cool climate roots with considerable charm, tight but elegant with a solid structure in support of blackcurrant, cracked black pepper, cocoa and mocha flavours. The finish is long and balanced with firm, fine grained tannins.
