Chardonnay Hawkes Bay New Zealand
Gunn Estate are world class, having claimed top trophy at the International Chardonnay France, 5 Winestate Stars, Gold ANZ and Blue-Gold at the Sydney International, all for varietal whites.
Winemaker Denis Gunn is adept at crafting champion, trophy winning chardonnays. A unique combination of soil, climate and geography gives Gunn Estate grapes a natural advantage before they've even been introduced to the winemaker. Denis has pulled the reins around some superlative batches of fine Hawkes Bay fruit and crafted a punch bowl of a Chardonnay without any oak treatment whatsoever. A long warm and dry summer has given us wonderfully ripe fruit with great intensity and balance. Carefully harvested grapes were gently pressed and cool fermented in steel tank. Blending of various vineyard components has resulted in a well balanced varietal wine. Alcohol 13.0%
Pale straw with light green hues. Bouquet is exquisite fruit driven chardonnay, fresh white flesh peach and citrus blossom with hints of dried pineapple and spicey grapefruit. Fruit galore, peppery and limey at once, full bodied with ripe pineapple, gooseberry and lychee flavours. Flavours that are wonderfully fresh, rich yet not big or heavy, delightful acid balance, lingering tropical flavours, crunchy stonefruit, total harmony. The palate here is clean and the complexity of flavours mates beautifully, peach and rockmelon, well balanced, a clean lingering citrus aftertaste.
