Shiraz Barossa South Australia
Known as the mentor to many Barossa growers and winemakers, Peter Lehmann is a man of his word. If you were to paint his portrait it would depict an image of great character and charm, just like the man himself. Lehmann is quoted as saying that when God created Shiraz, he did so with the Barossa in mind. Peter Lehmann has been making the Barossa's most reliable Shiraz every vintage for an unbroken succession of thirty years. The nose offers lashings of dark plum with an underlay of dusted chocolate, the palate brimming with rich fruit flavours.
Peter Lemann's vineyards are ideal for producing the essential Barossa Shiraz, internationally recognised as Australia's contribution to the great wines of the world. The region escaped the scourge of phylloxera, and consequently many of the vineyards remain planted on their own original rootstock, direct descendants of cuttings brought to Australia in the early 1800s from Hermitage in the Rhone Valley. This makes Barossa the envy of the wine world. Grapes are fermented on skins for seven days. Following pressing, clarification and blending, the wine was treated to maturation in a combination of new and prior use French and American oak hogsheads for twelve months prior to bottling. Alcohol 14.5%
Exhibits great depth of colour. A bouquet with tantalising aromas, dark plums and black fruit with just a hint of oak in the background. Seamless palate with excellent structure, the rich fruit is reined in by firm tannins. A beautiful expression of Barossa Shiraz, the perfect accompaniment to steak, roast beef and lamb, aged cheddar or pecorino.
