Josef Chromy OAM escaped from war torn Czechoslovakia as a penniless 19 year old in 1950, he fled across minefields, evading soldiers and killer dogs, ultimately finding a new home in the lucky country. Chromy has been a long standing principal in the Tasmanian food and wine industry, he established Tasmania's leading brands, including Bay of Fires, Jansz, Heemskerk and Tamar Ridge. Chardonnay is a grape that Leeuwin does exceptionally well. Winemaking however is an art as well as a science and it is here where the skills of the staff combine with technology. Broadly following European old world practices, Leeuwin remain focused on achieving complexity, balance and longevity in their wines. Strict temperature controls, Bucher pneumatic presses and a cellar of imported French oak are at the disposal of the winemaker to ensure that the fruit is transformed into the finest Margaret River Chardonnay. Enhanced by a regimen of lees stirring over the course of many months, Prelude achieves the ultimate balance while maturing in a selection of fine French oak barriques. Alcohol 13.5%
Brilliant straw green hue. A bright and vibrant bouquet portraying beurre bosc, fresh lime wedge and ripe fig. Complex and layered palate, features a delicate lemon, pear and lime fruit spectrum at the forefront. Mealy notes, gunflint and subtleties of nougat, fragrant jasmine and sweet spice provide breadth to an elegant nose. Delicately textured with vibrant grapefruit and freshly cut lime, width and complexity enhanced by fluffy nougat notes.
