Shiraz Heathcote Victoria
Tyrrell made a major contribution to the development of Heathcote as a world class winegrowing region. One of the very earliest pioneers, they sowed the seeds and established the vines which launched the second gold rush into Heathcote Shiraz. Lost Block is made to a delightfully forward drinking style, dark chocolate tannins support a mouthfilling palate of red currant flavours and piquant spice, followed by a lingering, well balanced finish. The inclusion of Viognier contributes a titillatingly enigmatic fragrant lift.
A winemaker with roots as long and deep as the history of Australian viticulture, Tyrrell occasionally stray from their environs at Pokolbin to source and vinify exquisite parcels of fruit into limited regional editions. Named after a misadventure when a vineyard was overlooked and forgotten, Lost Block are made to be fruit laden, fresh, vibrant and easy to drink. Grapes are harvested from the Tyrrell estate vineyard in Heathcote throughout the cool of night and transported to the Glenbawn wineworks. Destemmed fruit is fermented for a week and kept on skins for a few days to extract a balance of tannin before pressing. Lost Block is matured in a selection of predominantly French oak barriques. Alcohol 14.5%
Bright red/ purple in colour. A great lift of mulberry, plum fruit and soft, integrated, spicy oak on the nose. The palate is rich and robust whilst maintaining the finesse and elegance which typifies Heathcote. Excellent drinking now, the intense berry fruit flavours and mouthfilling appeal of this rich red wine makes it a fine accompaniment to lamb, beef and game.
