Chardonnay Hunter Valley New South Wales
Ever since a mythological deluge in 1993, the Tyrrell winemaking team has embarked on an argosy to detect and apprehend the illusory Lost Block. Stylistically fashioned to remain true to the promise of fruit laden, easy to drink wines, Chardonnay from the Hunter Valley and McLaren Vale have been harvested, crushed and chilled, before a hasty transfer to the Tyrrell wineworks at Pokolbin, for vinification into a fresh and crisp, revitalising wine.
Tyrrell have broadened their reach since that first vintage of 1864. The Lost Block range of wines represents a metaphorical journey around the premier viticultural districts of Australia to isolate and determine parcels of fruit that speak highly of the synergay between terroir and varietal fruit. Following harvest and the crush, vinification takes place at the Tyrrell's Hunter Valley winery. Inoculated in tank to a select yeast strain, chosen for its qualities as a good palate enricher which adds an attractive flintiness to the nose and palate. The juices are cold settled and vinified in tank fermenters, followed by an extended lees contact to build extra body and palate texture into the wine.
Pale gold in colour with an attractive green tinge. A medium bodied wine with lifted tropical and stonefruit aromas. The palate is generously flavoured with white peach, citrus characters and has a zesty, clean, crisp finish. Medium bodied, yet unhindered by any oak, Lost Block is zesty, clean and mouthfilling. Finishes crisply without any cloying residual sugar, the perfect match with antipasto and white meats.
