Tyrrell have gone right to the heart of Australia's most illustrious Shiraz appellation to realize parcels of fruit with tenacious tannins and profound varietal character. An inclusion of fruit from good vineyards on the Limestone Coast, McLaren Vale and Hunter Valley, rounds ot the wine and tames the tannins.
Tyrrell's have been crafting eminent Shiraz wines for over a century and are one of Heathcote's most accomplished growers. Tyrrell know Heathcote well after having developed the distinguished Rufus Stone vineyard, source to some of the nation's most conspicuous award winning wines. Shiraz from vines planted to deep red clay cambrian soils are transferred to the Tyrrell wineworks at Pokolbin. Fruit is harvested, crushed and treated to a term of cold soak in a combination of traditional, hand plunged open vats and larger potter fermenters. Upon completion, Old Winery is matured for a year or more in a selection of predominantly French and American oak barrels. Alcohol 13.5%
